Corrections. If a date, a name or a measurement on this site is wrong, please say so, and say where the better information comes from. Every page here lists its sources precisely so that this is possible.

Buildings named. Several photographs in the gallery show rooms and courtyards that could not be identified with confidence, so their captions describe rather than name them. If you recognise one, that is a real contribution.

Photographs and rights. If you hold rights in any image used on this site and want a different credit or want it taken down, write and it will be dealt with promptly.

The gaps this site has declared. Several pages say openly what they could not source: the madrasas of Algiers, the oral and musical traditions of the quarter, the nineteenth-century painters, the city gates, and the manuscript collections. Material on any of those is wanted.

An independent record of the medina of Algiers, written and maintained by Samir Sibachir. It is not affiliated with any government body, museum or tour operator, and nothing on it is sponsored.

Its method is simple and it is applied to every page: institutional and peer-reviewed sources wherever possible, every source listed on the page that uses it, and where the record conflicts, all versions shown rather than one chosen quietly. Where something could not be verified, the page says so instead of filling the gap.

This site does not arrange visits and does not take bookings. If that changes it will be said here plainly, and it will be said on the page rather than through an enquiry form.
